Is My Light Bright Enough at The Moment?
One night I was telling my husband how I unplugged the night light from the socket by the stairs. You see, this night light was actually placed there so that in case our kids wanted to come to our bedroom for some reason in the middle of the night, the hallway area by the stairs wouldn’t be so dark. We didn’t want them falling down the stairs in the middle of the night. So the night light was there to illuminate that whole area.
But to be honest, I never really thought that light made that much of a difference because I felt like it was too dim.
So after I unplugged it, the following day very early in the morning, between the hours of 4 and 5 a.m. as I woke up, I walked towards the hallway to adjust the air conditioner (it was too cold in the house) and noticed that that area was extremely dark. I thought to myself like why is this place so dark? Then I remembered the night light (light bulb moment here). I really didn’t think that little light made such a difference between darkness and light.
I immediately plugged the night light back in and the whole area lit up again. I could see again. It was no longer complete, total darkness. That little night light lit up the entire hallway/stairway, despite how dim I felt it was. It made a huge difference.
So as I sat there recounting the story to my husband, I heard the Holy Spirit say “that’s exactly right.” “A little light in you can make a huge impact. Don’t feel like you have to know it all to be able to minister to people.” And this word is true for every one of us, not just me.
Light here represents the Truth in God’s Word. The revelational knowledge of the Word of God that you know at this moment is more than enough to share with others. No knowledge is too small. God expects each of us to share what we know with others. We should not let fear or intimidation from outside forces to stop us from spreading our light and sharing it with others. In other words, the revelation God gives you, He expects you to display it and share it with others: it could be your family member, or your friend, or even your church member, a stranger or perhaps the entire world. Remember, there is Power in the Word of God.
Scripture tells us in Luke 8:16
“Now no one lights a lamp and then covers it with a container [to hide it], or puts it under a bed; instead, he puts it on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see the light.”
And again in Matthew 5:14-16 in the Message bible version:
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
I couldn’t have said it any better myself if I tried.
So I want to encourage you today to not let anyone silence you, better yet, don’t let you silence you. You don’t have to know it all or have all the answers to tell people about God. You don’t have to feel unqualified or feel like it’s only pastors and ministers, prophets and apostles that can share the Word of God with others.
The Light you have at this moment, the Truth you know about the Word of God, the knowledge you have is enough. Start with what you have and you will see God increase your knowledge and revelation even more.
I didn’t realize it then, but now I see that was the beginning of God planting this seed in my heart to start a blog site where I get to share His Word…at least the little I know with people.
Although I have to admit that when the time came, I still tried to get away from it, saying but Lord, there are others who are more knowledgeable in Your Word; there are others who are already doing it; but then He reminded me of this exact revelation. Right then I knew I had to take the plunge and just do it. I want to use this opportunity to encourage you to do the same, whatever it may be that God has asked you to do – be like the Nike slogan and – Just do it! 🌝
Well until next time, remember, keep your hope in God for He loves you unconditionally and has promised to never leave you nor forsake you!
