The Power in the Word of God

Blog Single

As I stood in front of the mirror attempting to deep condition my hair, I started meditating on the Word of God. I thought to myself, the bible says

“He sent His Word and healed them” (Psalm 107:20).

As I pondered on what that meant to me, I thought about all the Words God had spoken to me not only through His written Word but also through His spoken or sent Word. That scripture showed that God does not even have to be present to heal a person or situation; all He has to do is send the Word!

This reminded me of the story of the Centurion officer in the bible who asks Jesus to heal his sick servant. When Jesus was about going with the Centurion officer, the officer said

“Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come” (Matthew 8:8 New Living Translation).

The officer recognized the authority and power Jesus had and has also seen or heard about the miracles, signs, and wonders that Jesus had performed.

A particular scripture that I meditated on was “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). As I stood there with a hand full of conditioner on my head, repeating those words, then suddenly I was hit with a revelation from that Word. It hit me like lightning.

The eye of my understanding was opened, in other words, scriptures in the bible became real to me for this purpose, that I may come to know, understand, and believe the Truth. In Isaiah 43:10, the bible says that God has chosen us to know Him, believe in Him, and understand that He alone is God. So what is this truth? The truth is the Word of God, the truth is Jesus Himself. The bible even says in John 14:6 that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The truth can be found in God’s Word. Let me explain, God sees the storms coming our way, and He knew that there is absolutely no way we would survive or overcome that storm if we maintain the same mindset that we used to have before the storm hit. So in His infinite mercy, He opens our eyes and gives our heart understanding of His Word and then reveals Himself to us in ways like never before. He helps us come to understand and believe what His Word says which in turn increases our faith, trust, and belief in Him.

It is the knowledge and understanding of His Word, most specifically, the Word that applies to your situation that actually sets you free from it. That is why the bible says you shall know the truth, and that knowledge together with understanding and application of that truth is what will make you free!

With open eyes and a receptive heart to understand the scriptures, as Jesus did for the disciples in the book of John, we come to know our identity in Christ. We are able to know, understand, and believe His promises over our lives as outlined in the bible. It is through unveiled and enlightened eyes that we are able to understand the Word of God. Once we gain that understanding, we begin to realize how good, merciful, loving, kind, and sovereign God really is.

My prayer for you today is in accordance with Apostle Paul in Ephesians 1: 17-19 (New International Version, NIV):

May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.

So when we face challenges that are beyond our control, what are we to do?

  1. Search the Word of God to see what it says concerning that challenge and then meditate on that Word day and night. When God issues a promise through His Word, He means it. The Simplicity of the Word is the purest form of truth.
  2. Pray for God to open your heart and give you understanding of what the Word says. What does it mean and how can you apply it to your situation? Ask God to show you and He will.
  3. Next, put that Word to work by releasing your faith. How do you release your faith? You release your faith by believing the Word, decreeing and declaring it, and obeying whatever commands or instructions that may be attached to that Word.

God’s Word is powerful…very powerful; it is alive and sharper than any double edged sword (see Hebrews 4:12).

There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us (2 Timothy 3:15-17, The Message Bible).

So I ask you today, what word has God sent to you or spoken to you that you have dismissed, pushed aside and tucked into the corner? I encourage you to revisit that Word and begin to pray and meditate on it while asking God to open your eyes to see the power in that Word. As you do, I believe God would manifest His power in your situation even through His sent Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

I leave you with this promise from God in Isaiah 55:11

“It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

Until next time, remember, keep your hope in God for He loves you and has promised to never leave you nor forsake you!
