Sometimes when I’m reading the bible, I find myself asking God to give me some of the good or positive qualities or characteristics that the bible character I’m reading about has. Do you do that too? Or am I the only one? I know you do! That’s why we get each other.

There were times when I questioned though if that was ok – I mean to ask God to make you like someone else. But I figured, hey! Why not? Especially since what I’m asking God to do is for me to have the same qualities that made those people great in their God-given calling or assignment. I mean is it wrong to ask for wisdom? Or courage? Or favor? I think not!

So I decided to pencil down the prayer that I prayed for God to give me some of the attributes of some bible characters that we know so well. I can’t help but to wonder if you had to pray a similar prayer, what and who would you include in yours?

Also as you read through my own prayer or even as you pray your own, I want you to keep this in mind

“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure” Philippians 2:13 AMP.

Basically, everything we are and all that we will ever become, including our attributes or characteristics, all come from God.

My Prayer to be Like a That Person in the Bible

Lord, I give thanks and praise to You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well (see Psalm 139:14). However Lord, I ask that You also:

Make me obedient and faithful like Abraham
Give me dreams and their interpretation like Joseph and Daniel
Empower me to storm the gates of hell and destroy it like Elijah
Give me a double portion anointing like Elisha
Make me a great leader who goes with Your presence everywhere like Moses
Help me be loyal like Ruth
Help me to be strong and courageous like Joshua
Let me be able to hear You clearly like Samuel
Help me to be brave and after Your heart like David
Make me wise like Solomon
Let my shout of praise be loud and powerful and always go before me like Jehoshaphat
Give me favor with people like Esther
Help me to trust You in good times and in hard times like Job
Let me be a witness for You like John the Baptist
Let me be audacious and bold enough to actually step out of the boat like Peter
Give me endurance and perseverance like Paul
Empower me to spread the Good News like Your disciples
Help me to serve like JESUS!!!
Lord, make us like all these bible characters that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, counsel and might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord; and so that all our ways may be prosperous and our lives bring You glory. All this we ask in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
