Speaking God’s Word Even with Weariness in Your Heart

Jeremiah 20:9 in the Amplified version says:

If I say, “I will not remember Him Or speak His name anymore,” Then my heart becomes a burning fire Shut up in my bones. And I am weary of enduring and holding it in; I cannot endure it [nor contain it any longer]

This scripture always speaks to me because I can completely relate. I cannot escape this call of God over my life, and neither can you. We cannot escape or run away from speaking and sharing His Word with others even if we try. We can’t keep it all in even if we try. We can’t stay silent because it continually burns in our heart and in every fiber of my being. It is a call we can’t escape.

Also, I read chapter 20 of Jeremiah in its entirety, I noticed how weary Jeremiah got and it reminded me also of Elijah. It reminded me that no one, not even the greatest prophets, were ever perfect. It’s a reminder that we are all human, made of flesh no matter how deeply spiritual we are. We all get weary at some point in our walk with God. We get tired with everything happening around us and within us. We get tired of the mockery by others, of things not happening the way we like it, and situations not changing in our favor fast enough. We get tired of the enemy’s threats and tantrums which makes us want to run from God’s call over our lives. The call becomes too heavy for us.

But in times like this, is when we must remind ourselves of Jeremiah 20:11 that the Lord is with us as a mighty awesome One, as a warrior and a champion, One to be greatly feared.

So, it is ok if sometimes we get weary, but we shouldn’t dwell there. And God is so merciful and loving that even at those times, He does not just abandon us and throw us out, but He instead comes and meets us there to encourage, empower, and strengthen us for the journey ahead. He did it for Elijah when he ran from Jezebel into the wilderness and asked God for him (Elijah) to die. But instead, God responds by sending an angel to him to feed him and strengthen him for the journey ahead (see I Kings 20). He also did it for Jeremiah by encouraging him with His Word that strengthens him.

I want you to know that even in times when you get weary, God is right there by your side as He is by mine. Don’t let the devil beat you up for feeling weary, better yet, don’t beat yourself up for feeling weary. As you can see, even the best of the prophets felt the same way every now and then, but God met them in their weariness and pulled them out.

I leave you with this scripture from Jeremiah 20:11-13 AMP to encourage and strengthen you for the journey ahead:

But the Lord is with me as a dread champion [one to be greatly feared]; Therefore my persecutors will stumble and not overcome [me]. They will be completely shamed, for they have not acted wisely and have failed [in their schemes]; Their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten. But, O Lord of hosts, You who examine the righteous, Who see the heart and the mind, Let me see Your vengeance on them; For to You I have committed my cause. Sing to the Lord! Praise the Lord! For He has rescued the life of the needy one From the hand of evildoers.
