My Part in God’s Miracles
I used to think well if God is going to perform a miracle in my life, surely He does not need my help. After all, He is God all by Himself. If you are anything like me, chances are you have also had similar thoughts. In a way we are right, God does not need our help to perform any miracle; however, He does expect us to participate. We participate by being obedient and do whatever He asks us to do. The miracle itself is already set in motion, but it’s our obedience in whatever He requires us to do that draws the miracle forth to manifestation.
Therefore, when God wants to perform any miracle in our lives, there is always a part for us to play; no matter how simple or silly it may seem to us. It’s all in the obedience. Our part could be singing, praising, shouting, marching around a wall or simply throwing a piece of wood into a river to stop its bitterness (See 2 Chronicles 20, Joshua 6, and Exodus 15 respectively). That was what Moses had to do in the wilderness with the children of Israel when they were thirsty but the water in the River at Marah was undrinkable because of its bitterness, so the Lord told Moses to throw a piece of wood into the river (Exodus 15: 22-25). The miracle was in Moses’ act of obedience not on the piece of wood. He didn’t question God, he just believed and obeyed. For us to experience or receive our own miracles, we must be obedient to God’s instructions, to His Word. We should not complain and grumble and refuse to obey because if we do, we might just miss or delay our miracles unnecessarily. Thinking back to the story of Naaman in the book of II kings chapter 5, he almost missed his miracle because of his pride that led to his delayed obedience.
Our obedience reveals our faith in God and puts that faith in action. The bible says without faith, it’s impossible to please God and faith without works is dead (Hebrews 11:6 and James 2:17 respectively). We will talk about what ‘faith without works is dead’ means in a future post.
Keep in mind that delayed or partial obedience is also disobedience. So if the Lord asks you to do something, friends, I advise you to do it immediately. Trust that God who gave you the instructions already knows the end from the beginning and will provide everything you need to carry out that instruction. He will provide the grace you need to obey.
I remember reading the book of 1 Samuel 16 where God sent the prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint David to become the new king. David was going to take Saul’s place as the king. “But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” You see, at this point Saul was angry and bitter. He was willing to do whatever it takes to hold on to the throne. But the Lord responded to Samuel saying,
“Take a heifer with you and say, I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.” (1 Samuel 16:2).
In verse 3, the Lord said,
“Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.”
Ok let’s pause right there for a second. Did you notice how God did not even acknowledge Samuel’s fears? And it wasn’t out of lack of care on God’s side. It is actually because He, God, already knew all the obstacles or challenges that Samuel would face; but He sent him anyway. He sent him anyway because He has already taken care of or will take care of all the obstacles or challenges that Samuel may encounter. How does that relate to you and I? It means that when God sends us on an assignment, or when He gives us an instruction when we cry out to Him for help, we are not to become crippled with fear and then miss out on our miracle. We are to trust Him to lead the way and clear out any obstacle on the way.
So friends, today I want to implore you to reflect on your times with God in prayer and on any instruction or assignment that He may have given to you today, yesterday, or even years ago. Take heed and carry out that instruction because God only blesses us up to our last obedience. In other words, God will not give you further instructions that will lead to your breakthroughs until you have obeyed the last instructions He gave to you.
If you feel like the instructions or assignment He gave you is too difficult, all you have to do is ask Him to help you. He is faithful and kind to help. He loves you too much to leave you hanging trying to do it all on your own. He knows you and I need His grace to be able to do what He has asked us to do, but He is just waiting for us to seek His help. Hebrews 4:16 says,
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Don’t try to do it all on your own, humble yourself and say “Lord, I can’t do this by myself, I need You to help me”, and friend, He will.
So simply put, your part in God’s miracle is your obedience!
Until next time, remember, keep your hope in God for He loves you and has promised to never leave you nor forsake you!
